This unique training course has been developed for those working in the marine pilotage sector. With this course you will further develop and improve your skills and knowledge of the industry. The course will give you a greater understanding of the role of the marine pilot and will give you underpinning knowledge of the skills necessary to build a successful professional career within this important growing industry.
The course acknowledges the IMO Resolution A.960 (23), which contains recommendations for the training of pilots other than Deep Sea Pilots and pilotage operations, applicable to all ship types (including oil tankers, chemical tankers or liquefied gas carriers etc), irrespective of size.
Maintaining an effective working relationship between the pilot & the bridge team in both routine and emergency conditions is covered in this training, as well as ship handling & dealing with emergency scenarios. Other module subjects include key topics such as the types of pilotage, pilotage law, port control and boarding emergencies.
Rapid developments in ship design and climate change effects resulting in adaptation options for maritime navigation infrastructures demand that pilots continue to increase their understanding of ship manoeuvrability and hydrodynamic effects.
This training course will also give an overview of the PIANC recommendations for the design of vertical and horizontal dimensions of harbour approach channels and associated manoeuvring and anchorage areas, and other aspects of channel design and operations including depth and width requirements, along with vertical bridge clearances.
This masterclass provides practical experience under close supervision of experienced pilot. The course introduces a number of methods and techniques that were developed in close co-operation with IAPH (International Association of Ports & Harbours), IMPA (International Maritime Pilots Association) and IALA (International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities).
Attendees will gain knowledge and practical application of Marine Pilotage that can be applied in their workplace. The course is a mixture of lecture and exercises, helping the attendees to practice and apply the knowledge.
